Where have we been in 2013

After a long absence at the beginning of the year we are back and playing again, one of the team was not so well so we took a break, but we have been busy.

We already have a massive catalog of material but as we had some time we have added a few really cool tracks to our set list. We are also now rehearsing and getting ready to go into the studio, watch this space we will have news soon.

Drummer

Terry 'The Guv'nor' Garnish has decided to leave the band to join the Jimi Hendrix tribute band The Fire www.the-fire.co.uk . We all wish Terry all the best and welcome Alan Facer who is taking over on the drum stool. Alan has been a friend of the band for many years and has fitted in perfectly, welcome on board mate!

We're sorry to say that Blues Cruise will not be supporting Wilko Johnson at Sub 89 on 17 October 2012 as originally announced.

Absolute Radio - One Last Dream Competition

Did you hear the interview and excerpt from Sun City Blues on Christian O'Connell's breakfast show on Absolute radio on 10 May 2012? The aim is to re-unite a band and Blues Cruise are trying to reform the classic 1986 line-up with the big horn section. If we win we get to play at the Isle Of Wight Festival and record at Abbey Road. Fingers crossed! Get in touch all you old Blues Cruisers!

Farewell to little Chris

Little Chris Carolan (big Chris Hyatt's son in-law) marked his departure back to Oz by sitting in on the drums for Brown Sugar at the Rose and Thistle on 17 April 2011. Good luck to Chris and Annie down under.

Terry's car crash

Drummer Terry Granish had a car accident on 2 April 2010. He's on the mend but, in the meantime, young Tom Bates is filling in for the guv'nor. Get well soon Terry!

Rose and Thistle - 13 March 2010

The best land lady in Berkshire has another birthday, so its going to be a great party, so come on down.

Get yer ear plugs out - Jan 2010

Pete's invested in some super powerful new PA system an increase in power from the old system of 700 watts to a massive 2500 watts. These go up to 11.

Bookings for 2010 already

They always say "book early to avoid disappointment" and bookings are already coming in for 2010 with confirmed dates at the Rose & Thistle on 30 Jan, 13 Mar and 17 April. Also Claire and Ian's wedding on 10 July.

Here comes the bride...

We're honoured to be playing bassist Chris Hyatt's daughter's wedding reception on 1 April 2010. The lovely Anastasia is getting hitched to Aussie crazy boy Chris Carolan on 1 March with a swanky reception the next day. Strewth!

Upcoming shows - May bank holiday

We have now booked out both the May bank holiday weekends. On the 2,3 and 4 May we will be at the Burnham beer festival at the George. It was a great event last year, great people, very good food and of course lots of beers.

On 23 May we will be at the Motorbike show at the Lamb in Theale. Lots of bands on the day and bikes as well. We are doing a late afternoon show, come on down its a great venue

The Gateway Reading 21 Feb

This was our first time at the Gateway (Formerly Scruffy Murphys) and we were delighted that we had such a big crowd on the night. I think I counted over 30 friends and family during the night. A happy corwd, and Martin the landlord wants us back soon

Archies Wine Bar Burnham, McMillan Nurses charity function

We were happy to do this night for free as the McMillan nurses are such a great group of people. Terry "The Guvnor" was working and unable to get time off and so we were pleased when Rick from The Bullfrogs sat in with us, he did a great job on the night.

It was a fun night with two acoustic support acts and a very lively crowd. We played as long as we could and Chris was delighted to cover Run Rudolf Run his fave Xmas song. Thanks to Darren for organizing the event, we will be back!

The Lamb Theale - 4th Oct 2008

This was our first time at the Lamb allthough Terry had appeared in a previous band. It was a wet and windy night and little did we realise how hard we were going to work as we unloaded the gear in the rain!

What a night, a broken string and a faulty guitar lead slowed us down very little as we ploughed though our longest show ever 2 3/4 hours to be precise, and we still had some songs left!!

Solid bass from Chis , who we forget to tell about the gig untill two hours before! a solo acoustic set from Pete on the National and one of Terry's legendary drum solo's, can't wait to go back!!

Video shoot - 25 May 2008

We shot our video on Sunday 25 May. Some junior Blues Cruisers helped us out so look out for the finished article in about 2 months time. Thanks to Mark, Eleanor, Wills, Ellie and Lewis.

Video in production

Plans are in hand to record a two song video at the end of May 2008. Look out for some blues stars of the future!

Mini May Tour

Three gigs within 2 days equals a mini tour in my book. Catch us during the afternoon at The George in Burnham on Saturday 3 May and Sunday 4 May as part of the beer festival then again in the evenong at The Crown Wood in Bracknell on Sunday 4 May. No sleep 'til Hammersmith!

The Bridge Bracknell - 1 March 2008

Back at The Bridge. Chris has a new set of strings.

Second date of our residency in the heart of Reading

6 January 2008

Completed and mixed 4 of the 5 songs we started yesterday. Work Together, Gimme Some Lovin', Sweet Home Chicago and Substitute. Didn't get time to finish A Fool For Your Stockings. Maybe another day.

5 January Recording 2008

With the arrival of Terry we have decided to go into he studio and record some new material. With luck we will have 4 or 5 new tracks available provided we donít spend too much time in the pub next door!

Bar Four Reading 2008

The band has now got a short term residency at Bar Four and the next time you can see us is on the 6th February. It should be a fun night with a DJ, special guests and some new songs!

The Bridge Bracknell 5th December

This was a trip down memory lane for Chris as the Bridge was the pub where he did his very first gig. Shame he was using the same set of stings until the E went rendering it an expensive night.

Terry Garnish Drummer

After several false starts we do now have a new full time drummer. Terry was most recently with Gator Highway and adds a whole new dimension to the band with his dynamic endings and awesome soloís.

Re-union gig (posted 5 January 2007)

Mr Murphy returned to the Blues Cruise fold for a one-off gig at the Warwick Arms on 4 January. Several old numbers were dusted down and included in the set for the first time in many years. Steve O'Farrell also sat in for a few numbers for old times sake and both proved that they have lost none of skill. Good memories for all who were there.

The Majestic is coming down (posted 9 Nov 2005)

It's sad to see that the old Majestic building in Caversham Road, Reading is in the process of being demolished. This was the scene of some of Blues Cruise's best ever moments. The band played there 3 times in 1986 in front of very large crowds and as a result were awarded the Band Of The Year Award.

Sad to see it go.

Rehearsals are back on (posted 29 October 2005)

After a long break over the summer and the return of Neil to the Reading area we're finally back doing regular rehearsals. Work is progressing well with a number of new songs being added to the existing set of old favourites. Plans are in hadn to record a demo in the very near future. Watch this space.
